Light-shaft House YOSHIDA, Kuniichiro w w w w w w w w
Site
This project is located in Tokyo, Okubo area. The city of Tokyo is a prominent housing-high-density area, and inside, low layer housing group covers the whole town with high density. Since the site is always close with the neighboring house, it is impossible to take opening sufficiently by the usual method.
Considering such conditions, in order to make light penetrating inside, the wall of concrete was started in the shape of a pipe and openings are taken only from top-lights and quite high position.

Pipe-like space
The height of this building (a little more than 12m) was given so that the pipe of concrete might slip out from the hollow of the adjoining apartment of 4 stories. The space extended in the height direction makes it possible to induce perpendicular movement into the interior of the rooms, and to gain a more complicated spread in the limited floor space. A part of stairs that enclose the circumference jumps out and connected with a roof terrace. Although a bridge and floating study room complicates space more, many of these elements are controlled by the light falling down from the upper part, and acquire order in this house.
