Born in Tokyo in 1956, studies in literature at Sophia University, Tokyo 1976 to 1986 Tsuzuki worked as an editor and writer for the magazines, Popeye and Brutus, dealing with contemporary art, architecture, design and urban life. 1989 to 1992 ArT RANDOM - a compilation, published by Kyoto SHOIN, a 102-volume collection of contemporary art, which offered a comprehensive view on the multifarious range of contemporary art around the world in the 1980s. After that, he has written many articles and edited books on contemporary art, architecture, photography and design. 1993 published TOKYO STYLE, a collection of common living spaces in Tokyo. from February 1993 to July 1998 serialized ROADSIDE JAPAN in the magazine SPA!, visiting strange spots popping up around Japan. The first collection of the installments in the series, ROADSIDE JAPAN, came out in winter 1996 (the book won the 23rd Ihei Kimura Award). 1997 began issuing Street Design File, a series of designs produced mostly by nonprofessionals. The five volumes of the first installment were published by the end of 1997 - the others until the year 2000. Tsuzuki has also engaged himself in the design of spaces at such clubs as Ebisu MILK and Iikura ORANGE. These days he is working on an extension to the Roadside Japan Project, covering the unknown treasures of Europe and the United States. Tsuzuki is spending now half of his monthly life abroad for his researches. He is aiming to publish his latest output by the end of this year under the title Roadside Europe and Roadside America. |
