Jšrg H. Gleiter; Dr.-Ing. M.S., visiting professor at the Graduate School of Architecture at Waseda University in Tokyo. He teaches Critical Culture Philosophy of Architecture in the master and doctor program. From February to August 2003 Joerg H. Gleiter is a fellow in residence at the Kolleg Friedrich Nietzsche in Weimar/Germany. Joerg H. Gleiter was born in 1960 in Stuttgart, Germany. He studied architectural design and theory of architecture in Berlin, Venice and New York. He is holding a master degree from Technical University Berlin (1989) as well as from Columbia University in New York (1992). In 2002 he received his doctor degree from Bauhaus-University Weimar. The title of his Ph.D. thesis was ãCritical Theory of the Ornament Ð On the Change of Status of Aesthetics in Architectural ModernismÒ. For its excellency the thesis was awarded a ãsumma cum laudeÒ. Joerg H. Gleiter received a strong intellectual influence from the Venice School (Manfredo Tafuri). As a former student of Peter Eisenman he spent his formative years as a practicing architect in the office of Peter Eisenman in New York, later on working as a project architect in Italy, Frankfurt am Main and Berlin. He has taught architecture theory, architectural design and semiotics at Bauhaus-University, Karlsruhe University and the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. Among his recent publications is his book ãRueckkehr des VerdrŠngten Ð Zur Kritischen Theorie des OrnamentsÒ. Together with Prof. Gerhard Schweppenhaeuser he is the co-editor of a book series on philosophy, aesthetics and architecture culture. Its title is ãPhilosophische DiskurseÒ (Philosophical discourses). In 2003 the book series is to publish its sixth volume. Joerg H. GleiterÕs research emphasizes on Critical Culture Philosophy of Architecture and the theory and history of modern architecture. In Germany Joerg H. Gleiter made himself a name as an organizer of trans-disciplinary conferences on architecture culture and its related fields such as philosophy, sociology, aesthetics, art and media theory.
